There are many species of halibut with differing lifespans, although most seem to live for a pretty long time. Many halibut species live to be over 40 years old. The oldest Pacific halibut on record was 55 years old, although it’s rare for a Pacific halibut to live past 25.
Halibut don’t typically live their full potential lifespan since they are popularly fished after and eaten. But the Alaska Halibut can live up to 42 years old when left alone. The oldest female is recorded to have been 42 years old, the oldest male 27.
It is difficult to say since they die early due to fishing.
