Pet ferrets can live 8-10 years if they are properly cared for. Life span is obviously shortened if they are the victim of poor breeding practices (do you research on your breeder!) or afflicted with some condition and/or illness that shortens their lifespan.
ferrets normal life span is from 7 – 9 years, and beginning at the age of 2-3 they are susceptible to two very common serious illnesses: Insulinoma and Adrenal Disease, which could require medical and/or surgical intervention, which could become quite costly.
