Mother dogs take care of their young for about 5-6 weeks. During this time, she nurses them to give them essential nutrients and keeps the warm. There should be little human contact. After this time, the puppies become more independent and can be separated from their mother. Of course, this is the minimum amount of time the mother should spend with her puppies and doesn’t mean they have to separate after this time.
