In the wild, cheetahs may live up 8 to 10 years, depending on conditions like the availability of food. In zoos, cheetahs may live up to 17 years.
The endangered cheetah lives about ten to twelve years in the wild. With a generally much easier and less stressful lifestyle in captivity, their lifespan increases to about twenty years. Unfortunately, cubs have been found to have a high mortality rate in the wild. This is attributed to natural predators such as hyenas and lions, as well genetic abnormalities from inbreeding as a result of their small population numbers.
