Ostrich parents jointly raise their chicks for the first ten months of the chicks’ lives. Ostrich chicks are the most vulnerable for the first three months, where they tend to grow weak and die (“fading chick syndrome”), though the parents care for the chicks for many weeks after. Ostriches can live to be up to eighty years old, to put this in perspective a bit.
