Actually, we haven’t. As far as Americans go, Obama’s current plan expects all medical records to be digitized by the year 2015, and it was already being worked on before he came into office. One of the major companies involved in the crossover is Initiate Systems, which hopes to create a comprehensive system that addresses all areas of a patient’s health, rather than simply transcribing paper records onto a computer. The process is underway, but it appears that the crossover itself is waiting on more policy annoucements from the White House. Among the problems that must be addressed are individual doctors’ offices abilities to resolve IT issues, doctors’ unwillingness to change, and dealing with duplicate records for a single person.
