The Buddhist Temple in Thailand built from recycled beer bottles used about 1.5 million beer bottles. The monks began collecting bottles in 1984 and collected so many that they decided to build something out of them.
The Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew temple has been an ongoing project that began in 1984 and has continued ever since. The temple is always expanding since the monks build more as they receive more bottles.
The project started 26 years ago when monks began using donated beer bottles to decorate their shelters. More bottle donations came, and the monks have been using them to build everything from pagodas to toilets.
Even the bottle’s tops are used to create the temple’s murals!
