Australia’s most recent drought lasted for over 10 years. Luckily, two floods brought an end to the drought. They even filled the Menindee Lakes to their capacity – 140 billion gallons. The floods came as a HUGE relief to farmers and wildlife alike.
There were reports in a news article back in 2008 that Austrailia’s drought at that point had lasted a decade (MSNBC, 2011). This is known as the worst drought that Austrailia has experienced in a century. These drying conditions have had a major affect on the nation’s economy and economists predict that Austrailia will have suffered a 92 percent loss in agricultural production by the year 2100 (MSNBC, 2011).
