How long can a whale hold its breath for?

It depends on the whale, as the amount of time they can spend underwater is contingent upon oxygen conservation and storage.  Killer whales, for example, can stay under for ten minutes, while sperm whales can remain there for ninety minutes to two hours.

Some whales can hold their breath for 3 to 5 minutes, whereas some whales can hold their breath over an hour! The sperm whale can hold its breath from 20 minutes to an hour or more.
