How long can we go without reducing our climate footprint in America?

Well, at what point would the consequences of climate change be severe enough that one says we simply can’t afford to ignore it anymore? It’s tricky to define a cutoff. That point aside, I’d argue that we’ve already gone too long without addressing the issue. Climate change is having effects now, and because of the timescale of these changes we are going to see many more effects regardless of whether we take steps to reduce our climate impacts. True, we could probably survive without doing anything, but quality of life would suffer and it’d be a bad situation all around. The responsible thing to do is to start acting now; we probably should have been acting already. However, we are taking steps now, and I think America is moving in the right direction as far as climate change is concerned.
