How long can a snake go between meals?

It varies greatly by species. In the wild, the huge ambush predators like anacondas can get by a few months between an especially massive meal (like a caiman). However, smaller snakes like garters need to find food once a week or more. Their food needs will vary based on the size of their last meal, and environmental conditions, as well as across species and typical hunting strategy. More active hunters usually need to eat more frequently.
