From 19.7 inches (50 centimeters) at birth, adult male king cobras, also called hamadryads, can grow to be 18 feet long. Some have even been measured at over 20 feet; in fact, the longest venomous snake ever recorded was a 24 foot king cobra!

On average, King Cobras are about 13 feet (4 meters) in length. They can, however, reach up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) and weigh up to 20 pounds (9 kg). They are the longest species of all the venomous snakes. Amazingly, King Cobras are able to lift a third of their body length off of the ground and still move forward to attack when they feel threatened.
