The average person can hold his or her breath for about one minute, and the average male has a lung capacity of about 6 liters. The average casket size is about thirty cubic feet. Taken this into consideration, were a man to be locked in a casket, they could might be able to get five full breaths, at one minute each. That gives them about five minutes of air.
I’m sorry, I forgot to convert 30 cubic feet to liters. It came out to quite a different answer. 30 cubic feet is about 850 liters, so a full 6 liter breath held for one minute would give you about 141 minutes in the casket.
