If hunting is out of the question, bald eagles live around 20-30 years. Shooting bald eagles is illegal but that doesn’t stop it from happening. Also, habitat degredation, like power lines, polluted prey and habitat fragmentation can also shorten their lifespan.
In the wild, bald eagles can live up to 30-40 years, and longer in captivity. However, the average life span is 15-20 years due to hunting, electrocution after landing on power lines, poisoning, etc.
I have found information claiming that the average lifespan is anywhere from 15-40 years, depending who you ask, which leads me to think that a precise number might now be known. However, most numbers do seem to float around 25 years and a couple different reliable sources cited that number as the average, including a government site. Like others mentioned, it is hard to determine the natural average lifespan due to unnatural causes, which have also lead to only 50% of bald eagles to survive into adulthood.
