It completely depends on what age group is being taught and what the motive is. For adults who are simply curious, an 1-3 hours is probably the average (http://daviswiki.org/Sustainability_Workshop_Series). A workshop for building administrators may last all day (with breaks, of course) or even a weekend, as in a conference (like this one did: http://serc.carleton.edu/sustainability/index.html, or this one: http://masterplan.uncc.edu/node/23). If it’s geared towards children (i.e. teaching them to turn lights off when they leave the room, reduce, reuse, and recycle) it probably shouldn’t last longer than a half an hour, unless it’s a REALLY dynamic presentation.
