It really depends on how much you use it, and what you use it for. These days, most phones can last 3-4 days of average use, or longer. Some can last a week or so between charges with minimal use. Talking, texting, taking photos, playing games, and using the internet will all use increased energy, some more than others.
If you meant how long should the battery last without needing a replacement, ideally a cell phone battery should last a couple of years or so. That again depends on how often the phone was used, charged, and numerous other factors that could decrease its life expectancy (like being dropped or exposed to extreme heat).
