Usually 2-4 hours after, but they can grow for up to 24 hours afterwards.
A lot of the recovery period depends on your body type and how much of a workout was done. A good time frame however is usually 48 hours. Your body recovers the fastest when you are sleeping, so getting 2 good sleeps in between workouts for muscle groups should ensure that you are not overworking yourself. If you are not getting good sleep or rest, then you might consider waiting another day before working out those particular muscles again.
