London 2012 is trying to embed sustainability in every aspect possible. They plan to use already existing venues in the UK, make permanent structures only if they will serve for long-term use at the conclusion of the Games, and build temporary structures for all other purposes. The London 2012 Sustainability Plan focuses on a concept entitled “One Planet 2012.” The plan has five themes: climate change, waste, biodiversity, inclusion, and healthy living. These core themes are geared toward minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, minimizing waste at every stage of the project, ensuring no waste is sent to landfills during the time of the Games, minimizing wildlife impact from the Games, creating new employment and training, and inspiring people to live more healthy, sustainable lifestyles. London 2012 is also complying with a set of Sustainability Guidelines.
