It all depends on the forest, the needs of the local community, the resources available and the ecology of the area. There is no one set way of making logging more sustainable. Each individual forest and the body involved in governing it is responsible for making sustainability decisions. This means that there isn’t an exact model for the best sustainability practice because each individual situation and the needs of that area need to be taken into consideration.
One thing is for sure – if logging is to be made sustainable then it has to be managed well with a deep understanding for the forest as well as the needs of the logging industry and consumers. If these things are not taken into consideration in a balanced way it is impossible to manage the forest reserves in a way that is sustainable with the resources left in the world today.
