How likely is it to start a forest fire from a cigarette?

About three percent of wildfires nationwide are caused by cigarettes.  A much higher proportion of wildfires are simple put down to, “human caused”.  This may of course include cigarettes and often involves unattended campfires or stoves.  It is very likely that cigarettes will start forest fires at certain times of the year or when humidity is low and wind is high.  When I was a wildland firefighter we could get fired for smoking anywhere in the field because of the danger of fire posed by cigarettes.
