How large is the frilled shark?

    The frilled shark usually grows to be between 1-2 meters (3 1/2-6 1/2 feet).  Females tend to be larger than males.  The typical male frilled shark grows to be about 1-1.1 meters, while the typical female is between 1.4-1.5 meters.  The record for largest frilled shark is 2 meters.

    Like all fish, Frilled Shark has a lateral line running along the side of its body, bristling with tiny hairs that can detect vibrations in a manner similar to the inner ear. The frilled shark’s lateral line is open to the surrounding water though, it doesn’t use pores like most sharks do.
