The Aswan High Dam is one of the largest dams in the world. Located on the Nile, in Egypt, the dam is 364 feet tall, 11,811 feet long (a little over 2 miles), and 3215 feet wide at the base. The dam has doubled the amount of available electricity for Egypt, and has also raised the water table across the Saharah, as far away as Algeria. The dam also created Lake Nassar, a gigantic reservoir that spans 500 miles. Unfortunately, the dam forced several thousand (about 90,000) Egyptians to move, and drowned the nutrient-rich silt used for cultivating crops under Lake Nassar.
