How large are the spent fuel rods?

    Fuel rods vary in size depending on the type of assembly used by a particular plant. The most common ones (from a PWR fuel assembly) are just under 13 feet long, about half an inch in diameter, and weight about 5.5 pounds. There are 264 rods in one assembly.
