Offshore wind farms can be as big as a small town. The largest offshore wind farm is off the Denmark coast and has 91 turbines spread over a 35-square kilometer area.
In fact, the largest wind farm was opened today (Sept. 17)! It’s located in the North Sea, and uses 91 turbines to generate enough green power for 200,000 households. That said, most wind turbine hub heights are 80 – 100 meters above the surface of the water and the blades on those turbines extend even higher. Each average-sized turbine has a capacity between around 5-10 megawatts.
