Soil degradation is an important environmental problem not widely known to the public and is an increasingly interconnected issue with a host of other problems–With six billion people relying on food grown on just 11 percent of the earth’s land surface today and only a mere 3 percent actually holding naturally fertile soil, soil health is very important to food security and even climate change (90,92 Mann). A great article on this can be found in the September 2008 issue of the National Geographics magazine. To read it click here http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2008/09/soil/mann-text
