How high should I make my fence to keep deer out of my property?

According to Homegrown Gardens, deer do not like jumping high and far at the same time.  Large deer can effortlessly jump a 12 ft. fence, so the key is to build two fences four feet high and four feet apart.  Homegrown Gardens says that deer will be afraid of falling into the gap between fences and are afraid to cross it.

Whitetail deer can jump 10 feet in the air from a standing position. Most people don’t have many issues if any making fences 8 feet in height or higher. If you can make a fence that deer can’t easily see through, this will deter them further from trying to enter your garden. They won’t know what they are missing out on!
