Approximately seven feet high so they can’t jump over.
Deer typically wont jump over fences as low as 6 feet high. While there are fences in the 8, 10, 12 and 15 foot range, most fences range somewhere between 6 and 8 and half feet.
Our garden has a fence that is about 10 feet high, and we have persistent deer that are still able to clear it. If you’re not into building a really tall fence, try putting some sort of netting over a garden area or other methods of keeping deer out, like hanging bars of very strongly scented soap from net bags around the perimeter of the area you are trying to keep deer-free
