There aren’t too many. The problem with healthy school lunches is it can cost a school district a lot more to keep them healthy. The idea is faster prep and volume (sort of like a fast food place, really), but in general, school lunches vary from district to district.
Also, a lot of kids don’t care for healthy at that time, they want delicious. This is evident in the choices that kids make in cafeteria lines–extra helpings of fries slathered in ketchup or salad dressing is a far more likely choice than a pack of veggie sticks.
If kids become more aware of healthy food choices, it won’t be long until school menus must keep up. More emphasis on health and nutrition in schools would go a long way to solving this issue.
