In 2005, 62% of all yard waste was composted, and the total number of composting programs was around 3500. Compost can be used as fertilizer, mulch, or even compost tea. Not only does compost cut down on waste, but your trees, shrubs and potted plants will all thank you!
In Seattle you can put your food scraps into your yard waster containers and the city picks it up. A lot of places now sell “counter-top” composters so that people can compost food scraps easily. I think the yard waste pick up has really helped more people compost in Seattle.
