    The cable TV industry is serious about going green, and is beginning to use more energy efficient set-top boxes and other equipment. Employees in the field are using more fuel efficient vehicles and utilizing global positioning systems (GPS) to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Cable facilities are using alternative energy sources such as solar and wind. Equipment and gear is getting smaller and more efficient. Also, suppliers are promoting recycling and ending the use of hazardous materials in the electronic gear. Cable operators are also offering paperless billing options to reduce paper consumption.
