I don’t believe that texting itself has hurt the environment, but rather the demand for new devices that has accompanied it. Our lust for trendy fads is the true problem here.
Personally, I think that texting takes away all the subtleties in personal communication. When you text someone, you can’t tell whether or not they are joking about something from the intonation of their voice. I find that texting is useful in rare cases when you know that someone may be in a situation where they are unable to answer their phone, but generally I avoid it.
