How has the invention of wifi helped the environment?

Wifi has been beneficial for the environment because it has reduced the use of having to lay actual cable lines in order for the majority of people who want internet access and other services.  This reduces the amount of metals and plastics used for these cables, which helps reduce the environmental impact associated with the mining and production of those materials.  In addition, not having to dig up streets or set up communication line networks also reduces any impact those activities may have, such as urban runoff from street construction.
