Engineers are now more conscious of energy inputs and demands of the products they are designing (or often re-designing). They are trying to maximize efficiency from an energy standpoint (to be able to do more with less) nowadays, and not only trying to maximize cost efficiency (because they know that now people are willing to pay a little bit more if they know it will not make such a heavy, damaging impact on the environment)… one example is the new field in the automotive industry dedicated to using Hybrid Technology. Engineering is still engineering, but the focuses, concerns, and priorities have shifted somewhat in favor of protecting the environment.
