The process of having your building inspected and evaluated is not hard in and of itself, though the energy performance requirements your building has to meet are pretty stringent. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification can be achieved at any of four levels, with platinum being considered the highest rating.
To achieve a platinum rating, the building must achieve the highest scores in several different fields, including: sustainable site location, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, locations and linkages, awareness and education, innovation in design and regional priority.
