Paul LePage, governor of Maine, has proposed the elimination of several of the state’s environmental initiatives. One of his most controversial proposals was the reservation and zoning off of 10 million acres in the state to be reserved for development.
He has also proposed the relaxation of air emissions standards; the adherence of Maine’s environmental laws to less strict federal environmental standards; and the reversal of a vote to ban the use of bisphenol A in certain products.
LePaul has expressed an opinion that a “fair balance” must be established between economic growth and environmental protection.
