By backing the Roadless Rule set in place by the Clinton Administration in 2001, Obama has taken a firm stance in protecting a large chunk of national forest. The Roadless Rule protects about 58 million acres of forested areas from logging, mining and construction. The rule is constantly being debated and tangled in the courts, but Obama, so far, has remained firm in protecting the forests.
