Water is getting scarce. Increasing population growth mean more water use, but our natural reservoir of water can only support a community to a certain point. Basically, the supply of water is getting smaller while the population demand just continues to increase.
One reason is that most peopl see water being privatized, “they see a price being put on something that’s essential.” But the biggest reason water prices are soaring is due to the country’s aging and leaky plumbing. Apparently, “industrialized countries like the United States haven’t set aside enough stimulus-package money to replace our aging water infrastructure. According to the United Nations that could cost upwards of $200 billion a year.”
Specific situations such as countries experiencing drought can also cause people to charge more for water.
