The population count technique of fish varies based on the type of fish and body of water they are in. Some of these techniques include counting during migration when fish are concentrated in one place, using humane traps to see how many fish swim through a certain area over a certain period of time, damming rivers to get a sample count, and measurement of food sources for the fish being counted. Counting fish is an interesting and complicated process that can be pretty accurate. Obviously, we will never be able to count a number of fish precisely, but a good average can be accumulated using these techniques.
