Average global temperatures have been climbing an average of 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit since 1880, mostly in recent decades according to NASA. However, the rate of warming is increasing. According to many climate studies, the 20th century’s last two decades were the hottest in 400 years and possibly the warmest for several millennia. Additionally, 10 of the hottest years ever recorded were done so in the past twelve years. If nothing is done to address global warming, it is believed that sea levels could rise by 7 to 23 inches by the end of the century (even a 4 inch rise could be disastrous for many island nations and parts of Southeast Asia).
