How fast do whale sharks swim?

Whale sharks are the largest shark, and they feed by swimming slowly through the water and filtering out zooplankton and small fish. As a result, they usually cruise around at only 3 mph, and are probably capable of twice that when they need to be. But whale sharks are the polar opposite of the shortfin mako, which can hit 40 mph and leap incredible distances from the water.
