Seals can swim 11 to 12 mph and depending on the species, can dive depths of 300 to 1000 feet.
Some seal species are faster swimmers than others. Sea lions can swim 25 mph for a short period of time when they are chasing prey or escaping a predator. Harbor seals are slower and can reach speeds of only 12 mph. The typical speed for all seals, however is much slower.
