Otters streamlined bodies are made for life in the water. On the surface, these creatures can swim up to speeds of 10-12 kph. Their underwater speed is almost as quick. Otters can stay underwater for more than two minutes at a time.
It is no secret that otters are great swimmers, as they have a body built for it and spend a large majority of their lives in the water. They swim on average about 6 miles per hour, and are able to propel themselves faster for short distances if they need to. Surprisingly, they are also quick on land as well: they can run as fast as a human and move more than 15 miles per hour on hard packed snow and ice.
