It takes a newborn Caribou calf a few hours after birth to begin to run. Within the first hour of their life Caribou calves begin to walk and nurse. As for how fast, that is hard to determine. I imagine since the top speed of Caribou adults is 50 miles-per-hour, baby calves must run slower since they are most susceptible to being prey of Grey Wolves and other predators.
A baby caribou can keep up with its mother one hour after birth. One day after birth, a calf can out run a human. At full speed, a caribou runs 48 mph. When under stress, caribou can swim 6 mph also.
