Wolves have several different modes of travel: walking, trotting, or running. They walk at speeds of around four miles per hour, but rarely are seen walking. Trotting is the most common way they get around, and they can do so for many miles in a day. At speeds around 8 to 10 miles per hour, they have been known to cover up to 60 miles in a single night. They do not often run at full speed except while chasing down their prey. When they do this they can reach up to 40 miles per hour, but average around 35 mph for most wolves.
