How far inland does the smog from Los Angeles reach?

The smog of Los Angeles gets trapped over the city, as is can travel no farther inland than the San Gabriel Mountains.  Many of these mountains are over 10,000 ft. The warm air in the summer causes an inversion layer, when air gets warmer rather than cooler with increased elevation, trapping the cooler, smog-filled air over the city.
