How far away can the effects of mountain top mining be felt?

    Many consider mountaintop removal mining to be the most environmentally destructive practice around. One of the major concerns with MRM is water contamination. The mining dumps debris in surrounding streams and rivers. The debris not only affects the nearby ecosystems, but other ecosystems further downstream as well.
