How is fabric softner bad for the environment?

It is bad for the environment because it contains many toxic chemicals, including, but not necessarily limited to, acetaldehyde, alpha-pinene, ethanol, and chloromethane. These chemicals have been known to affect the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, sensory, neurological, and reproductive systems. Instead of fabric softener, it would be much more environmentally friendly to use a quarter of a cup of baking soda in the wash cycle and a quarter of a cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle.
