Regular tourism is travel for the sake of seeing places without any real regard for the environment whereas eco tourism is defined as “Responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people.” (TIES, 1990)
Eco tourism seeks to minimize environmental impacts and maximize conservation through awareness and financial benefits.
Ecotourism is better for the environment than regular tourism because ecotourism carries a theme of enjoying naturally beautiful and pristine land in a responsible manner with as little impact as possible. On an ecotourism trip, a person gets the chance to enjoy some of the most naturally breathtaking places in the world while interacting with local cultures to build environmental awareness and respect, provide financial help for conservation, and learn about a country’s natural and cultural history.
The International Ecotourism Society defines ecotourism as “responsible travel to natural areas that conserve the environment and improves the well-being of local people.”
