There are many restorative activities that occur within the body during sleep. Muscle growth, tissue repair, protein synthesis, and growth hormone release occur during sleep as well as clearing out of excess adenosine (a byproduct of cell activity that is considered to be one of the causes of tiredness).
There are four stages of Non REM(non rapid eye movement) sleep, stages 3 and 4 of deep sleep are the most important to rejuvenating the body and mind. Deep sleep is when the body repairs itself and builds up energy for the day ahead. It plays a key role in maintaining your health, stimulating growth and development, repairing muscles and tissues, and boosting your immune system. Deep sleep is the key to waking up energized and refreshed.
Your body repairs itself during sleep. It is believed that when the body sleeps, neurons turn themselves off and repair themselves. It also promotes the release of growth hormones, maintains/strengthens neural connections that may otherwise decay, maintain emotional and other regulatory systems, maintain the immune system, and much more.
