How does welding work?

Welding is a process that is typically done by melting two pieces of material (usually metal) and adding a filter material making a sort of pool of melted material. When this cools, it becomes a strong joint. Strong pressure is also sometimes used with the heat in order to get a stronger weld. As the act of welding has progressed, new technologies have also come about and various individuals are now able to do various kinds of welding including forge welding, arc welding, oxyfuel welding, etc.
